Kyle XY - ep5

I just watched the 5th ep. It goes better and better. Lot of Nick inside!!! How creepy LOL. So "Alex"! But a special mention for the smirk at the end, with a brief hint of tenderness and affection in it, how did he manage that? Lemme tell ya, that's our Nick!
Okay, back to my drooling puddle whilst the VCD is burning.

It is indeed, isn't it?

Like you, I'm quietly more and more impressed with this show as it goes along. They've made a number of nice, non-stereotypical choices along the way that make the show definitely interesting when they could have just settled for the conventional choice. For one thing, they could have left Nick's character to merely skulk around the edges of the plot and never really develop what's going on with him and his (now former) organization. But having the organization cut him loose, so that he becomes a free agent doing whatever it is he's up to... Okay, shades of Krycek, too, naturally, but dramatically it's got much more potential than the standard scenario.

In the fourth episode, they could have had Kyle's budding feelings be reciprocated with no problem, but then the boyfriend appeared, quashing that possibility. Or so we thought. In this episode, the picture grows more complex (and hence, more interesting.) She's not simply beyond reach, and the boyfriend isn't someone we can all loathe because we'd rather see Kyle get the girl.

And I have to say I was really impressed with that final scene. When the camera pans back and we see that Kyle is being watched on-screen, we get a bit of a chill but it's not so much of a surprise. But when we see that Nick's character has all the family's rooms bugged, I nearly jumped. I wasn't expecting that at all, which made the surprise all the better. Plus I love that the camera didn't just do a distance shot of Nick's character at the end, but focused in on that great smile/smirk/whatever. Good visual storytelling.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this story develops. And it's nice to actually have a TV show to look forward to each week. Nothing has really drawn me in since the good old classic days of the XF.
