Maybe you could "light my lantern" (enlighten me) about something: I noticed that in characters' (and even authors') description, blood type is always mentioned. Does that have a special meaning in Japanese culture?

I have noticed that too and I have no idea. I know something about Japanese culture as I was partially raised by a Japanese lady when I was young. I would like to find out though as I am curious. :-)

About blood types...
I found those explanations on sorayuri:

Realcrazyman, or 쳐돌았군맨, is a Korean blogger who posts picture journal entries about common blood types - A, B, AB, and O.
“Eastern countries -- supposed to be originated from Japan, not to sure -- believe that your blood type has an impact on your personality as much as horoscopes and Chinese and Western zodiacs do, which is basically the reason why many anime/manga characters' profiles contain blood type category.”

I suppose it's the same idea as the “temperaments” theory widely used in medieval Europe (sanguine, nervous, bilious, lymphatic) which were related to the four elements.

Watching yesterday an ep of 'Naruto Shippden' series, I heard one of the characters supposing his behaviour could have been foretold from his blood type.
